City on Top of the World

City On Top of The World

What a season it has been for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. Having clinched the title following their victory over Tottenham Hotspur and having seen United's shocking defeat to season strugglers West Bromwich Albion, we take a look at what's been an outstanding season for the blue half of Manchester.

At the end of last season when City finished in third place, 15 points behind Antonio Conte's Chelsea, questions were being asked about whether  the Sky Blues could adapt to Guardiola's style of play and wether Guardiola himself could adapt to the highly intense nature of the Premier League. But boy has he proved us all wrong by investing in some technically sound and high quality players such as Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane.

De Bruyne and Sane have been the main catalyst to City's dominance in this season's Premier League. the way the have controlled the midfield has given the opposition defenders a nightmare as there slick passing and dribbling skills have been a crucial aspect in their title winning display.

Another influential player for City has been Raheem Sterling. Sterling has so far scored 17 goals and made 8 assists which initially doesn't show much, but what has impressed me is the way he has used the ball in an unselfish manner like we saw at the 2016 European Championships where he kept on losing possession of the ball whilst trying to run past defenders.

Guardiola's side just need eight points from their remaining five games to break Chelsea's record of 95 points in a title-winning season. Will they be able to achieve this? I can't see why not given that the team is in such good form, despite those two defeats against Manchester United and Liverpool.

It would also be interesting to see how they do next season when they will be defending their title which hasn't been done since Jose Mourinho's first stint at Chelsea where he guided them to back to back titles in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
